About Us and Mission Statement
Goldey-Beacom College has been known by many names and seen countless individuals call the institution home since its founding in 1886. This site charts the college’s journey from its early days, when H.S. Goldey and W.H. Beacom opened competing business colleges just blocks apart in downtown Wilmington, Delaware, to its present-day prosperity and stability at its current location on Limestone Road in Pike Creek. Throughout its history, wherever and whenever Goldey-Beacom has existed, the college has left an indelible mark on its community through the achievements of its students, alumni, faculty, and staff.
This collection documents the multifaceted history of the college, capturing the experiences and contributions of a diverse group of individuals who have shaped, and been shaped by, Goldey-Beacom. It includes perspectives from student-athletes, who have long contributed to the school’s spirit and culture; alumni, whose personal and professional trajectories illustrate the transformative power of higher education; and administrators and educators, whose leadership and guidance have helped steer the institution through periods of change and growth. Together, their stories provide a comprehensive view of the college’s evolution, highlighting key moments, challenges, and triumphs.
Importantly, the history of Goldey-Beacom College is also deeply entwined with the broader story of Delaware. The college’s development mirrors the social, economic, and educational shifts that have shaped the state—from the growth of business education in the late 19th century to the expansion of suburban campuses in the 20th century, and into today’s focus on workforce development and digital innovation. Through its people, programs, and enduring presence in Wilmington and Pike Creek, Goldey-Beacom reflects the changing face of Delaware and its communities.
The Goldey-Beacom Archives, housed in the college library and extended through our growing Digital Collections, serves as a bridge connecting the college’s rich past with its vibrant present and promising future. These collections support teaching and learning by providing access to primary sources and historical documents, fostering research skills and critical thinking. They are also a resource for understanding Delaware’s local history, offering insights into how education, community, and individual achievement intersect in meaningful ways. In preserving and sharing these materials, we hope to inspire a deeper engagement with our collective heritage and a renewed appreciation for the legacy we continue to build.
